Moraga is located in the East Bay, about a twenty-minute drive from Oakland. Moraga real estate is popular among people who want proximity to San Francisco or San Jose without having to deal with crowds and traffic on a daily basis. If you’re planning a trip to Moraga or shopping for Moraga homes for sale, you might be curious about what there is to do in the area. This article will introduce you to some of the best things to do in Moraga, but the only way to truly experience Moraga is to make a trip for yourself.

1. Tilden Regional Park

Tilden Regional Park stretches over 2,000 acres near the Berkeley Hills and the San Pablo Ridge. Tilden Regional Park offers plenty of fun and exploration for the entire family with pony rides, carousels, and model trains. It’s one of the oldest parks in the entire Berkeley area. The park is open daily from 5 am to 10 pm, and there’s no parking fee or bringing your dog along on a leash. Consider packing a picnic lunch for your next visit.

2. Lafayette Reservoir

If you want to spend time outside, head over to Lafayette Reservoir to enjoy a walk or hike near the water. Kids will love the play area, and if you plan to purchase Moraga real estate, you can even purchase an annual pass at a discounted rate to access the area whenever you want. It’s a popular spot for fishing and kayaking. However, swimming in the water is not permitted.

3. Orinda Theater

This classic-style movie theater frequently shows independent and foreign films. There are three theaters total, and you won’t feel swallowed up inside like you often do in larger movie theaters. On the contrary, you may feel like you’re relaxing in your own living room behind your big-screen TV. There is also an ongoing concert season, and you can purchase tickets or view a schedule of upcoming events on the theater’s website.

4. Moraga Art Gallery

Many local artists display their work at the Moraga Art Gallery, where visitors have the opportunity to purchase paintings, photography, jewelry, and other works of art. There are several permanent exhibits along with regular rotating displays. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday between 12 pm and 5 pm. There is plenty of free parking nearby.

5. UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley

At the UC Botanical Garden, you’ll find 13,000 species of plants spread over 134 acres. Many of the plants are native to the state of California. Stop by the conservatory to learn about several different types of tropical plants, or visit the Chinese medicinal herb garden to hear about the traditional Chinese approach to using plants for healing. The garden is open most days from 9 am to 5 pm, and guided tours are offered on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The garden is closed on the first Tuesday of each month, along with some major holidays.

6. Lesher Center for the Arts

At Lesher Center for the Arts, you’ll find three separate theaters. Each space offers plenty of space for guests to enjoy theater performances, ballet, literary presentations, and comedy acts. Locals can also participate in theater and art workshops, and you’ll want to leave time to check out the Bedford Visual Arts Gallery on the first floor. Before your performance starts, you can grab a drink from one of the center’s fully stocked bars to bring with you and enjoy at your seat.

7. Oakland Museum of California

You’ll have to travel into Oakland to check out this museum, but it’s well worth the trip. As you walk through the halls, you’ll learn a great deal about the history of California. Specific exhibits educate guests about California’s climate, art, and people. Many of the displays are interactive, and special traveling exhibits are frequently on display.

8. Redwood Regional Park

You can often feel overwhelmed by all of the buildings and crowds in the Bay Area, and Redwood Regional Park offers a natural escape from the hustle of big-city living. There are plenty of places to stop and have a picnic as you walk through acres of beautiful redwoods and spectacular views. Mountain bikers enjoy riding through the area, so keep an eye out for passing bikers anytime you’re walking through the area on foot.

9. Putter’s Goat Track Country Club

Putter’s mini-golf course seeks to offer a fun and engaging experience that is challenging for more seasoned golfers while still being accessible for beginners. The course is relatively new to the area, as course designer Sean Howard didn’t build his first mini golf hole until 2019. The hobby picked up during the pandemic, and eventually, Howard had to get to work building a full course with 18 holes. By this time, he also had to move the holes out of his backyard and into a more permanent location. Putter’s is a great space for individuals of all ages and athletic abilities to spend time having fun and connecting with each other. The course is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but you can get in a round between Wednesday and Sunday.
